HKEx Launches the Orion Central Gateway

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) today (Friday) announced the successful launch and completion of the stabilisation period of the Orion Central Gateway (OCG), a new centralised access point that enables Stock Exchange Participants (EPs) to connect their order management systems to HKEx's securities trading system.

The OCG provides a cost efficient architecture by eliminating the Exchange footprint in EPs' premises, and it introduces new services such as an industry standard FIX* interface and drop copy.  The OCG also decreases latency and increases overall resiliency.

The OCG has been launched to operate in parallel with the existing Open Gateway, providing a gradual migration path for EPs.  Fifty-four EPs have established trading connections to the OCG so far and more are scheduled to be added in subsequent on-boarding phases.

The OCG is part of HKEx's Orion Technology Initiatives, an investment programme designed to transform HKEx's market infrastructure and strengthen Hong Kong's position as a leading international financial centre.

"The successful launch of the OCG was another big step for our Orion programme and we appreciate the preparation work of the EPs that were involved in the rollout," said HKEx Chief Executive Charles Li.

"We will continue to invest in technology for our markets to ensure they remain attractive," Mr Li said.
