Green and Sustainable Metrics for Equities

As Asia's premier listing venue, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has the opportunity and responsibility to lead the green and sustainable transition in the region. STAGE is partnering with leading ESG data providers to consolidate and showcase ESG metrics of Hong Kong-listed companies, enabling investors to compare companies across sectors and sources when making their investment decisions. This feature will support companies on their sustainability journeys, and generate greater levels of awareness for retail investors on ESG. HKEX-listed issuers that have received ESG Ratings from at least one of our partners will be showcased.

Note: STAGE has hyperlinked the individual ESG Ratings to their respective profiles at the providers' sites, if the profiles are available, to provide direct access to further ESG information (some providers might require contact information for further access within their sites). Discrepancies could arise between the ESG Ratings displayed on STAGE and the ESG Ratings displayed on their respective providers' sites due to differences in updating cycle. STAGE ESG Ratings are as of 31 December 2023.

HSI/HKQAA Ratings:  Hang Seng Indexes Company introduced its first sustainability or ESG index back in 2010. Starting from 2014, the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (“HKQAA”), an independent and professional assessment body, has been appointed by Hang Seng Indexes Company to evaluate the ESG performance of approximately 500 Hong Kong-listed companies and around 1,300 A-shares companies using HKQAA’s proprietary sustainability assessment and rating framework. HKQAA’s ESG rating model is designed to rate a company’s management system maturity and risks with regard to sustainability performance. The assessment captures both general and industry-specific criteria across three aspects: Environmental, Social and Governance covering seven aspect subjects.

S&P ESG Rating: S&P Global ESG Scores are based on information collected in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), using a rules-based, industry specific approach built by investment practitioners to more precisely capture the ESG factors expected to have an impact on a company’s growth, profitability, capital efficiency and risk exposure. Scores are between 0 and 100 (best). Companies assessed using the CSA fall into two categories (i) Participating companies – companies that are assessed on information they submit to S&P Global as part of their active participation in the CSA and on publicly available information, (ii) Non-participating companies – companies that are assessed on publicly available information only and do not actively participate in the CSA.
