Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is today (Monday) pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Huang Yiping, Dean of the National School of Development and Director of the Institute of Digital Finance of the Peking University, and Mr Chang Sun, Partner and Chairman, China at TPG, to HKEX’s Mainland China Advisory Group (Advisory Group).
HKEX Chairman, Carlson Tong, said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Huang Yiping and Mr Chang Sun to our Mainland China Advisory Group. Their deep expertise and extensive experience in China’s business and finance industry, as well as extensive understanding of macroeconomic and financial policies, will be invaluable to the HKEX Board, facilitating the further development of the Group’s China strategy.”
Established in 2021, the Advisory Group comprises senior industry experts with deep China market knowledge and experience, to advise the HKEX Board. With the addition of Professor Huang and Mr Sun, the Advisory Group now comprises nine members and is chaired by Laura M Cha, former HKEX Chairman. Other members of the Advisory Group are Fred Hu, Chairman, Primavera Capital; Ma Weihua, former President, China Merchants Bank; Zhang Lei, founder of Hillhouse Group; Carlson Tong, HKEX Chairman; Bonnie Y Chan, HKEX Chief Executive Officer; and Zhang Yichen, HKEX Non-executive Director.

Huang Yiping Biography
Professor Huang is Dean of the National School of Development, Boya Distinguished Professor, and Director of the Institute of Digital Finance, the Peking University. He is also a member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the People’s Bank of China, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Society of Finance and Banking, Chairman of the Special Committee on Fintech Development and Research of the National Internet Finance Association of China, a member of the China Finance 40 Forum and the Chinese Economists 50 Forum, and the Deputy Editor in Chief of Asian Economic Policy Review.
Previously, Professor Huang was Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University, Managing Director and Chief Asia Economist for Citigroup, and Managing Director and Chief Economist for Emerging Asia for Barclays. He was also a member of the External Advisory Group on Surveillance, International Monetary Fund.
Professor Huang holds a Master of Economics from Renmin University of China and a PhD in Economics from Australian National University.
Chang Sun Biography
Mr Sun is the Partner and Chairman, China of TPG, a global alternative investment firm. He is also the founder and current Honorary Chairman of the China Venture Capital Association and the founder and current Executive Vice Chairman of the China Real Estate Developers and Investors’ Association. Mr Sun also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Lauder Institute at the Wharton School, and a member of the China Entrepreneurs Club. He is also an independent director of GDS Holdings Limited.
Prior to joining TPG, Mr Sun was the Chairman and founder of Black Soil Group, an agriculture investment holding company. He was the Chairman, Asia Pacific at Warburg Pincus, a global private equity firm from 1995 to 2015, and an Executive Director at Goldman Sachs Asia in Hong Kong from 1992 to 1995.
Mr Sun holds a joint degree of MA/MBA from the Joseph Lauder Institute of International Management and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the US.
