Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) and Samruk Kazyna (SK), Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth fund, today jointly hosted a conference in Hong Kong entitled "Kazakhstan Investor Day – Belt & Road Initiative" that brought together representatives of HKEX and CICC, Kazakhstan government leaders and investors seeking emerging markets exposure to learn about the latest developments and opportunities in Kazakhstan and initiatives to support Mainland China’s Belt & Road initiative.
SK introduced some of its portfolio companies, such as Air Astana, Kazatomprom and Kazakhtelecom, which are at different stages in the fundraising process, and there were keynote speeches by James Lau, Hong Kong's Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, and Timur Sumeimenov, Kazakhstan's Minister of National Economy.
Other speakers included Romnesh Lamba, HKEX's Co-head of Market Development, Shakhrat Nuryshev, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to China, and former investment banker and CICC chief executive Levin Zhu.
"HKEX is not only one of the world's largest IPO (initial public offering) markets with a unique track record in international IPOs and cross-listings but is also playing an important role in the evolution of China's capital markets through the Connect programmes," said Mr Lamba.
"We are working to develop the first Belt & Road index and will continue to align our strategies with the Belt & Road initiative," he added.
Romnesh Lamba, HKEX Co-Head of Market Development, discusses key developments in the Hong Kong IPO market and HKEX’s initiatives around two transformational themes, New Economy companies and the Belt & Road initiative.
